The Lighting Superstore began as Lighting Studio in 2001, working from a small design style office in Bundall. The initial focus was on selling lights and fittings to tradespeople and consultants predominately at the northern end of the Gold Coast. In 2004 Lighting Studio expanded into the retail sector, and a new much larger shop was opened on Brisbane Road, Labrador.

As Lighting Studio grew, so did the range of lights and fixtures. The decision to move to larger premises was taken to accommodate the growing markets and services. Lighting Studio moved to the new premises at The Homemaker Centre, Helensvale and The Lighting Superstore was born.

The Lighting Superstore is still actively run and managed by the three owners, Maya Darren and Peter, who continue to bring to the company their combined 40-plus years of industry experience.
